5 Best Schools in West Calgary

Top 5 Best Schools in West Calgary: Our Picks | Jonathan Popowich

Walkability, transit, nearby amenities. There are many factors involved in choosing the neighbourhood you want to live in. But if you’re a parent, access to good schools is probably near the top of your list.

Luckily, there’s no shortage of fantastic educational institutions in Calgary. From kindergarten to university, local students have some of the finest learning opportunities in the country. And some of the best schools are located right here in the western part of our city. In this post, I’ll look at five of the best schools in West Calgary.

Rundle College

Located in Springbank Hill, this exemplary private school serves students from kindergarten to grade 12 and is definitely one of the best schools in West Calgary. First off, Rundle College boasts small class sizes, devoted teachers, and high provincial student exam scores. Tuition is also competitive, making Rundle far more accessible than many other private schools.

For many parents, the school’s biggest draw is the consistently-high ratings it receives. Rundle is often given the highest grade offered by the Fraser Institute (an overall ranking of 10 out of 10). If you’re looking for a family home in Southwest Calgary, you’ll probably want to keep Rundle College on your radar.

Webber Academy

If you want your kids to have a truly enriching educational experience, look no further than Webber Academy. This private school in Aspen Woods focuses not only on academic excellence, but on helping students become civic-minded community members.

Kids from grades k-12 enjoy Webber’s fully-equipped facilities and majestic location. The school’s impressive amenities include two large gymnasiums, a performing arts centre, and cross country trails through the Aspens.

Like Rundle College, Webber Academy has also earned top marks from the Fraser Institute (10 out of 10).

Calgary French and International School

If you’re looking at French immersion options, you might want to consider Calgary French and International School (CFIS). Located in Cougar Ridge, CFIS offers a curriculum based on not two but three languages—English, French, and Spanish.

The school, which is comprised of two divisions (elementary and junior/senior), also provides a low student-to-teacher ratio. In 2017, CFIS received a score of 9.2 out of 10 from the Fraser Institute.

One of many unique aspects of the school is its focus on humanitarian efforts and global citizenship. In the higher grades, this includes travel study opportunities. If you want your child to become a true citizen of the world, there’s no better option than this West Calgary school!

St Joan of Arc

If you want your child to receive a high-quality, faith-based education, look no further than St Joan of Arc. Located in West Springs, this Catholic primary and junior school scored an impressive 8.7 out of 10 from the Fraser Institute.

In addition to a supportive learning environment, St. Joan of Arc boasts an impressive athletics program. From cross country to wrestling and glee club, the recreational opportunities at this Southwest Calgary school will meet the needs of every child.

Springbank Community High School

Are you looking for a place that will truly prepare your high-school-aged child for college or university? If so, Springbank Community High School fits the bill.

The Springbank Schools are public schools that sit under the umbrella of the Rocky View School Division, and they take a sophisticated approach to learning. Students learn to reflect, self assess, and adjust their learning skills based on feedback. The school’s leaders and educators have obviously found a winning formula, because Springbank High School received a Fraser Institute score of 8.2 out of 10 in 2016.

Not only does this school boast excellent teaching and facilities, but also an athletics program that has produced many professional athletes in various disciplines.

    1. Except their administration staff. We have sent an email asking whether our child is starting the school or not(after registering and filling all the forms) we are yet to receive a response. Very unprofessional. It’s like there are people in that department who doesn’t want to register students and just to take their registration fee which was if I remember right $100 per student. Pretty good money for doing nothing. I guess this is their way of stealing yes stealing money from parents and hey we can’t even do anything about the $100. I would expect at least an email saying “sorry we are full” but no nothing. Very professional Rundle! Needless to say we are no longer interested and I’m sharing this experience with my friends and family basically, whoever ask us about private schools(our child is now going to another private school where every child and parents are respected for their time and efforts) don’t send your kids to Rundle
